From the recording Songs For The Visitor
"At Zero", the first single from "Songs For The Visitor", is one of ten songs on the first album by Lovely Trees, (Sally McKay). Here, she shines a light on the magical thinking and complexity she experienced as a caregiver: “I wanted so badly to believe that I had the power to change the path of my partner's illness - if only I could harness that power. And then there were the many questions I had afterward. Did I do everything that I could? I eventually came to see there was nothing I could’ve done. This wasn’t about me, but about his time, in his life. This song is a glimpse at a singular moment on the path to acceptance.”
Lyrics
At Zero
Been bitten, now shy
Stay hidden, this time
Didn’t wanna give you, give you up anyway
Didn’t wanna give you, give you up anyway
Could I have made you stay
Could I have saved the day
And been your hero, while you were so high
Kept you nearer, while you were so high
And I was at zero
How will I ever start again
There’s a firing range where my heart once lived
And tell me what’s the great, great take away
Didn’t wanna give you, give you up anyway
Could I have made you stay
Could I have saved the day
And been your hero, while you were so high
Kept you nearer, while you were so high
And I was at zero
Could I have made you stay
Could I have saved the day
And been your hero, while you were so high
Kept you nearer, while you were so high
Been your hero while you were so high
And I was at zero
Could I, could I, could I have made you stay
Could I, could I, could I have made you stay
